Hello everyone, this is chu chu your anonymous flyer. Continuing on passenger boarding, I am going to cover on the types of passengers we face during boarding.
Crew: Welcome onboard sir, may I take a look at your boarding pass?
Pax: No
Crew: ......
Yes, we’ve had a lot of such passengers, but we still need to maintain our signature smile and professionalism even though our blood is boiling inside and we’re mentally killing them.
What if the passenger refuse to show us their boarding pass? So far most of the passengers will comply after asking them “nicely” a few times. What if the passenger still refuse to comply? I’ve not met any so far but I guess the crew could offload them since they are uncooperative and what if it’s an emergency? Will they comply with the commands?
The following is based on my true experience. Inside my mind, I really feel like 63&/@playground;$?! them but I have to maintain my composure and put on my genuinely fake smile. It’ll mostly happen in economy class. Not sure why.
Flights to and from shopping destinations such as Bangkok, japan, taiwan and korea are a big headache for us. Almost everyone will carry more than 2 bags onboard( limitation is only 1 bag and only 7kg) and you know, we have limited space onboard.
Question 1 : excuse me, why the overhead compartment above my seat is full ?
Can you clear the space? So I can put my stuff in.
Answer 1: I am really sorry(our magical word) but the usage of the Overhead compartment is based on first come first serve basis. We will try to find some space for you to stow your item.
Question 2 : My bag is very heavy, can you ask a guy to help me
Answer 2 : I am very sorry mdm, the guys are busy right now, let me ASSIST you with the bag(must speak a-bit louder so the passengers around you will hear it and be your “witness” in case you got complained). May we lift it together?
P.s i don’t usually get the steward to help because it’s not fair to them, and what if anything happened to them? I have a lot of steWard friends with slip disc and back problems after helping passengers with their overweight bag. I will only help the pax to stow their bags if the passenger is handicapped or really require assistance.
Basically we are not paid to handle passenger bags but instead, we do assist them (out of goodwill) if they really need help. I know many people who have hurt their tail bone and was put on mc for months. And that loss of income is really no joke. So please, try to pack your luggage within your means. Be responsible for your own belongings please.
Question 3: Can I have playing card please?
Answer 3: certainly. Allow me to come back to you as soon as I can.
I usually don’t tell passenger “ I will come back to them in X mins” because they will challenge and say “it is more than X mins and bla bla bla” and escalate to a complain.
Covering our backside is very important in customer service.
To be continued..
