Hello everyone, this is chu chu your anonymous flyer. Continuing on the favourite hot topic, “can I upgrade to business class?”

Answer is yes! Provided that you pay the balance.. DURING CHECK IN OR AT THE GATE! Not after boarding the aircraft as neither the cabin crew nor the captain have the right to upgrade passenger in the aircraft. Unless you pay for it or if it’s your lucky day and economy class is overbooked and you will get your free upgrade(The probability is 0.000001%)

Back to my real life experience;

The flight was from singapore to Australia( during the beginning of covid-19 period and singapore had not close its border), there is one passenger who came onboard and told the crew in business class that he is feeling unwell and would need the business class seat to make him feel better. 🤨

Just a little background information about Australia’s customs. They are very strict about the items that enter their country. You’ll have to declare all food items and all. The captain will have to inform them ahead if there’s an unwell pax onboard. The whole fleet will have to be “grounded” ie nobody can leave the aircraft, until a quarantine officer has “inspected” it.

The crew then inform the leader who is in charge of economy class. The leader will then have to inform the matter to the purser (our hierarchy)

The leader went to the passenger and asked him what’s wrong.

Pax: I am having a little fever and cough and feeling unwell so can I get a free upgrade to make myself more comfortable?

(Already paged for the ground staff and purser already informed the commander about this issue.)

Crew : sorry sir, you are having fever and cough ( covid-19 symptoms). Do you have a medical certificate to confirm that you are fit to fly? I am afraid that we are not able to take the risk to take you for flight. We have to offload you.

Pax:( panicked because he needs to attend a meeting) Oh, I am feeling alright now. I am fit to fly and I don’t need the upgrade. (Wow! What a miracle!🤨)

Passenger is unhappy and wanted to meet the captain. So captain came out to “meet” him.

Captain : sir, sorry we can’t have you onboard. If you are sick and want to fly you should just keep quiet about it and nobody will know. Now you told us that you are having a fever and some cough, we have to offload you unless you have a medical certificate to prove that you are clear to fly. If not we have to let you go.

So passenger have to be offloaded, passenger around him were all cheering and say good job in offloading him.

Sidetrack again: you told the crew you are sick. it is a very serious matter, especially when we’re flying into Australia and during this pandemic(sensitive period).Nobody will want to risk their lives just for you.

chuchu wants to warn you not to come out with any silly excuses just to get a free upgrade.that can cause you to be offloaded. Just take whatever class you can afford and enjoy the flight. You will still reach your destination no matter what class you are in.
